SISTEMA DE AMARRE

FOLCH MOORING SYSTEM

Using ropes instead of chains.

As a result of years of research, at Folch Ropes we pride ourselves on working with the Folch mooring system, registered in the Patent Office.

The result is a family of polyester ropes of maximum tenacity, with a heatset finish and low shrinkage, which allow uniform and long lasting works to be carried out, especially related to marine moorings.

Folch mooring system includes the replacement of the conventional chains for synthetic ropes with same resistance capacity, and offers great advantages in terms of economic cost, maintenance, safety and respect for the environment:

  • The installation of our ropes represents an economic saving of 24% compared to the steel cable systems. In addition, it is much simpler.
  • Its maintenance also represents an economic saving of around 60% (59% to be exact) compared to conventional chains maintenance.
  • A lower economic cost of the synthetic ropes compared to the chains.
  • Technical inspection tasks are easier and more reliable with synthetic ropes due to the fact that the material is lighter and more manageable. In addition, there are no encrustations of algae nor other marine elements that make inspection difficult, as is the case with the chains. Work risks are also reduced.
  • A lower occupational risk in underwater work, since the rope is a much lighter and more manageable element than the chain.
  • It reduces the ecological impact on the seabed due to the elimination of galvanic currents created by the chains. By eliminating the chain, we also eliminate corrosion in other parts, such as shackles and thimbles. Replacing the chains also means driving out corrosion in all other parts such as fetters or thimbles.
  • A longer durability. As data, after 26 years in use, breaking tests of the ropes drawn from the sea showed they kept almost the same resistance capacity than the moment of its installation 26 years ago.
